Hogwarts Comes to Hollywood with Harry Potter Theme Park
Hollywood is about to get even more magical.
Universal Studios is waving its wand and planning to build of replica of its Orlando-based Harry Potter theme park in Los Angeles, according to Company Town.
"The Wizarding World of Harry Potter" at Universal Studios Florida has drawn more than seven million Muggles since it officially opened to the public on June 18, 2010. The park features Potter-themed rides such as the Flight of the Hippogriff and replicas of Potter locations like the Three Broomsticks Inn.
The deal between Universal and Warner Bros. for the new park at Universal Studios Hollywood is being finalized and is expected to close in the next few weeks. Universal won the "Harry Potter" theme park rights for Southern California over Disney, which was looking to add the magical world of J.K. Rowling to its Disneyland park in Anaheim.
West Coast Potter fans will have to wait a little while, though, as the California version of "The Wizarding World of Harry Potter" is expected to open at Universal Studios Hollywood no earlier than 2015. Until then, perhaps a road trip (or broomstick ride) to Orlando is in order?
