Ginny Weasley chopped her hair for new role

Image change for Bonnie Wright... and not a wizard in sight

Bonnie Wright has ditched her trademark long red locks because she wants her new character to be “as far away from Harry Potter” as possible.

Wright, who played Ginny Weasley in the wizard franchise, is about to make her West End stage debut in the Peter Ustinov play The Moment Of Truth.

Her hair is now darker and cut into a bob for her role as The Girl in the story of an unnamed, war-torn republic.

The actress, 22, said: “I just felt like doing it. The last time I had my hair this short was the first Harry Potter film and I was nine-years-old. This is as far away from Harry Potter as you can get.

“I read the script and I knew instantly that I wanted to play a person that evolves physically and mentally.

“Harry Potter was a fantastical world. This play is very solid in terms of connecting to history and what governments do.”

Of Daniel Radcliffe’s new play, she added: “I will be going to see it after our run ends. I don’t think he will be able to make it to mine as he will be on at the same time.”

The Moment of Truth is on at the Southwark Playhouse from June 26 to July 20.
